Box Score GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The Philadelphia University women's soccer team's season came to a close with a 1-0 loss to No. 12 Adelphi in the second round of the NCAA Tournament Sunday afternoon on Motamed Field.
Philadelphia finishes the 2015 season with an overall record of 10-9-3. The Rams won their second straight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference championship and reached the NCAA Tournament second round for the first time in program history.
The Panthers (18-2-2) will take on the Bridgeport, the East Region's top seed, in round three on Friday, Nov. 20.
After a scoreless first half, Adelphi broke through with the eventual game-winning goal in the 57th minute. On a corner kick, Laura Gomez and Jeanine Nunez worked a give-and-go to perfection with Gomez putting the ball in play to Nunez. After getting the ball back from Nunez, Gomez ran down the right end line and beat keeper Courtney Shaw (Langhone, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) for her 12th goal of the season.
It was the first goal that the Rams had allowed in 861 minutes, 09 seconds.
Shaw finished the match with seven saves.
Adelphi outshot Philadelphia 20-0.
