Box Score BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – Senior guard Monica Schacker (Doylestown, Pa./Germantown Academy) knocked down five 3-pointers and tied her career high in scoring with 26 points for the Philadelphia University women's basketball team in a 76-69 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) loss to Bloomfield Thursday night in The Gym.
Philadelphia, who enters the game eighth in the first set of NCAA Division II East Region Rankings, is now 18-6 overall and 12-4 in CACC play. Bloomfield improves to 16-8 overall, 14-3 against the conference.
Senior guard Najah Jacobs (Philadelphia, Pa./Central) and junior forward Tori Arnao (Newtown, Pa./Archbishop Wood) joined Schacker in double figures with 12 points each. Arnao added a game-high 10 rebounds for her 12th double-double of the season.
The Rams shot 47.4 percent (27-57) from the field, including 46.7 percent (7-15) from 3-point range. Philadelphia attempts just 10 free throws, the second-fewest total of the season, making eight.
Philadelphia jumped out to a 13-8 advantage at the 13:30 mark of the opening half when Jacobs capped an 11-2 run with a 3-pointer. The Rams hit four of their five attempts over the 2:59 span, led by five Jacobs' points.
Bloomfield responded with back-to-back 3-pointers from Tianna Smith and Morgan Taylor to grab a 14-13 lead. Philadelphia didn't stay down long, scoring 11 of the next 13 points to own an eight-point cushion (24-16) on a Schacker three with 8:21 left in the half. Schacker scored seven of the 11 Ram points.
The Bears turned up the defense and managed to end the half with a 19-6 run to take a 35-30 lead to the locker room. The Rams shot 2-of-9 from the field and committed three turnovers in the final 7:50. Smith scored seven of her team-high 20 Schacker opened the second half with a 3-pointer 1:54 in to close the Bear lead to 35-33, the closest the Rams would get in the final 20 minutes.
Bloomfield rattled off six straight points, including back-to-back Tierra Scott layups, to extend its lead to 48-39. The lead reached 11 (58-47) on an Ariel Wilson basket with 8:37 left.
Taylor finished with 18 points, while Scott added 12 points and seven rebounds.
Philadelphia heads to Concordia (N.Y.) for a CACC contest on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 1 p.m.
