Volleyball edged out by West Chester, 3-2

PHILADELPHIA – Courtney Wensel (Bechtelsville, Pa./Berks Catholic) racked up 14 kills and 12 digs, both career highs, as the Philadelphia University women's volleyball team pushed undefeated West Chester to the edge before falling 3-2 in a non-conference match Tuesday night in the Gallagher Center.

Philadelphia (2-3) took set one and three by a score of 25-23, while West Chester (9-0) claimed set two 25-15 and set four 25-23. The Golden Rams secured the match with a 15-4 set five win.

Chelsea Hughes (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) recorded double-digit kills for the third time this season with 13.

Libero Michele Chai (Sinking Spring, Pa./Berks Catholic) led the defensive effort with 23 digs, while Allison Manley (Saint Charles, Ill./Saint Charles East) added 16 digs.

Setter Nina Morvin (Willow Grove, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) recorded a double-double with 24 assists and 10 digs.

Philadelphia welcomes Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opponent Caldwell and Southern Connecticut to the Gallagher Center for a tri-match on Saturday, Sept. 19. The Rams play the Cougars at noon and the Owls at 4 p.m.
