Women's volleyball goes 1-1 in home tri-match

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University women's volleyball team went 1-1 in a home tri-match with Caldwell and Southern Connecticut on Saturday afternoon in the Gallagher Center.

The Rams started the day off with a 3-1 loss to Caldwell in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match. After dropping the first two sets 25-19, Philadelphia hit .318 to win the third set 25-21 and close the gap to 2-1. Caldwell (7-4, 1-1 CACC) closed out the match with a 25-14 set-four win.

Chelsea Hughes (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) and Courtney Wensel (Bechtelsville, Pa./Berks Catholic) paced the Philadelphia offense with 14 and 13 kills, respectively. Hughes hit a team-best .290 during the match. Nina Morvin (Willow Grove, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) contributed 22 assists, while Alexandra Harrington (St. Leonard, Md./Huntingtown) added 20 assists. Michele Chai (Sinking Spring, Pa./Berks Catholic) had a match-high 22 digs.

The Cougars got 12 kills from Katrina Janssen.

Against Southern Connecticut (2-8), Philadelphia took the early lead with a 25-21 set one win. After the Owls won set two 25-21, the Rams won the next two sets 25-20 and 25-20 to put the match in the win column.

Wensel set career highs with 20 kills and 15 digs for her second career double-double. She had a match and career-high 50 attempts.

Allison Manley (Saint Charles, Ill./Saint Charles East) posted her first double-double of 2015 as she contributed a season-high 13 kills and match-high 19 digs. She hit a team-best .281. Harrington distributed a career-best 28 assists.

The Rams recorded 50 assists, tying a season-high, hit .219 and had 71 digs in the victory.

Leanna Jadus had 14 kills and 10 digs for the Owls.
