PHILADELPHIA – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) women's soccer team begins the 2017 campaign on the road at Millersville in Millersville, Pa. on Thursday, Aug. 31 before hosting Queens on Saturday, Sept. 2 at Ravenhill Field. Thursday's away contest starts at 7 p.m. while Saturday is set for noon at home.
A SEASON AGO
A season ago, the Rams turned in a 9-8-1 overall record to go along with a 8-3-1 mark in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC). After a shaky first half of the season, the Rams won six of their final eight regular season contests before falling to Wilmington in the CACC Championship Quarterfinals. Led by head coach George Dunbar in his 19th season, the squad is not far removed from its back-to-back CACC Championships and NCAA Tournament berths back in 2014 and 2015.
A LOOK AT MILLERSVILLE, QUEENS
The Millersville Marauders went 7-10 in 2016 including a 7-9 mark in the PSAC. The Marauders lost its top goal scorer Alexandrea Powell to graduation. She led Millersville with five goals and 13 points. The two squads last met way back in 2009 with the Rams defeating Millersville, 2-1, on Aug. 27 in the 2009 season opener in Philadelphia.
Queens College plays at Holy Family on Thursday before Jefferson on Saturday. The Knights stumbled in 2016, going 4-12-1 and 1-6-1 in conference play. The Rams suffered a home loss at Ravenhill Field to the Knights last September, 2-1, in the early stages of the season.
NEXT UP
Following matches on Thursday and Saturday, the Jefferson Rams have a week off before traveling to Post for a CACC matchup against the Eagles on Saturday, Sept. 9 at noon p.m. with the Jefferson men's team following at 3 p.m.
