Men's Basketball Defeats Post, Picks Up Fifth Straight Win

PHILADELPHIA - The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) men's basketball team (10-6, 5-2 CACC) earned its fifth win in a row with a 73-64 decision over the Post Eagles (4-12, 1-6 CACC) on Saturday at the Gallagher Center.

GAMEPLAY
The two squads went back-and-forth during the opening 10 minutes of play until the score was tied at 17 apiece. That's when the Rams took over with an 11-2 run that ended with 4:11 on the clock. Jefferson held onto the lead for the remainder of the period and had a 33-30 advantage at the break. The Rams forced 10 Post turnovers in the stanza.

The Eagles fought back to start the second, tying the score at 39 (16:30). Jefferson followed with another rally, posting 11 of the next 13 points for a 50-41 lead. The margin stayed in the single digits until junior Kylan Guerra's jumper (6:57) made the score 64-53. Post came no closer than seven the rest of the way and the Rams led by as many as 12 (73-61) down the stretch.

BY THE NUMBERS
- Sophomore Alexander Gorton recorded a game-high 19 points on 6-of-9 shooting.
- Junior DeVaughn Mallory put up his fourth straight double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. He added one assist, one block and one steal.
- Guerra finished with 15 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals.
- Junior Josh Bradanese scored 13 points while Prince Hickson chipped in with nine points, seven boards, five assists and one steal.

AS A TEAM
- The Rams shot 49.1% (27-of-55) on field goals, 33.3% (3-of-9) on threes and 72.7% (16-of-22) at the line.
- Jefferson won the rebound battle, 32-30, including grabbing nine offensive boards.
- The Rams forced 15 turnovers, turning them into 20 points.

NOTES
- The Rams now have a 19-2 advantage in the series versus Post and they are now 11-1 at home. Jefferson has won 13 straight meetings, including eight in a row at the Gallagher Center.
- The victory was the 1,084th of head coach Herb Magee's career.

NEXT UP
Jefferson Men's Basketball stays at home and hosts division rival Georgian Court on Wednesday, January 16 at 8 p.m. The Rams took both meetings last year, including an 84-82 overtime victory at home.
