Second-Half Surge Propels Men's Soccer Into CACC Tournament

WILMINGTON, Del. – In Tuesday's regular season finale, the Thomas Jefferson University men's soccer team (6-8-2, 4-6-1 CACC) scored three goals in the second half to defeat Goldey-Beacom, 3-0, and snag the eighth and final spot in the CACC Tournament. It is the Rams' 10th straight appearance in the conference playoffs.

Jefferson had the opportunity to earn their way into the postseason after Bloomfield's scoreless draw at Nyack earlier in the afternoon. A Bears victory would have eliminated the Rams from playoff contention.

Jefferson is the eighth seed and will travel to the tourney's top seed for a quarterfinal game on Monday, November 8 at 2 p.m. The Rams' opponent will be either Wilmington (Del.) or Post depending on the outcome of the conference's final regular season contests on Thursday.

GAMEPLAY
Jefferson withstood the Lightning's attack throughout the first half as the host team dominated play, outshooting the Rams 8-1 and recording a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks. However, Jefferson was able to keep GBC off the board.

In the second period, the Rams began to pressure in the 51st minute with a flurry of chances and the effort paid off. Glenn Holmes saved a ball from going over the end-line and centered to Michele Ganz, who found the goal just inside the right post to give Jefferson a 1-0 lead in the 54th minute.

The Lightning had to play shorthanded after a red card in the 57th minute and the Rams took advantage. Holmes set up another tally, this time to Gabe Paz who shot inside the right post for a 2-0 margin in the 60th minute.

Jefferson's final marker came in the 75th minute. Holmes picked up his third assist of the day, sending in a cross from the left side that was headed into the cage by TJ Hibsman.
