Volleyball Falls To Stonehill In NCAA East Region Quarterfinals

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Thomas Jefferson University volleyball team (26-5) had its season come to an end with a 3-0 loss to Stonehill in the NCAA East Region Quarterfinals on Thursday afternoon. The Rams were seeded sixth while the Skyhawks are the third seed.
 
GAMEPLAY
Stonehill got off to a strong start, recording the first four points of the match. The Rams came back to get within three (7-4) but the Skyhawks pulled away again with four straight points. Stonehill had a 16-8 advantage when Jefferson rallied for six of the next seven to close the gap to three (17-14). However, Stonehill answered with a 5-1 run to make it 22-15 on the way to a 25-18 victory.
 
The Rams picked up the first point of the second set but the Skyhawks came back with four in a row to take the lead. Jefferson got within two (5-3) but Stonehill strung together six consecutive points to start a 10-2 run that made the score 15-5. The Rams were able to cut the deficit in half (19-14) but the Skyhawks scored six of the final seven to take the frame 25-15.
 
The two sides traded rallies to start the third stanza and the score was even at 11 midway through the set. That's when Stonehill took control, scoring six of the next seven to go in front 17-12. The Rams closed the gap to three (19-16) but the Skyhawks created some space once again with a 5-1 stretch and went on to clinch the match with a 25-20 decision.
