Caffrey Nets Late Winner, Goldstein Makes Key Stops as Women's Lacrosse Shocks Molloy

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. - The Thomas Jefferson University women's lacrosse team netted five of the final six goals, including the game-winner by Madison Caffrey with 18 seconds remaining, to stun host Molloy, 14-13, on Saturday. The Rams improved to 5-1 on the season.

GAMEPLAY
It was all Lions in the opening five minutes as the home team jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Camryn Sullivan and Erin Avanzato tallied back-to-back goals to get Jefferson within one. Molloy found the back of the net two straight times to restore a three-goal cushion (5-2) with 13:03 on the clock. Caffrey and Kanha Stockford countered for the Rams, making it 5-4. The Lions ended the half with a 3-0 run for an 8-4 halftime advantage. They got the better of the shot count (20-12) and the draws (8-4) in the period.

Jefferson came out strong to start the second, producing three in a row, two by Stockford, to close the gap to one (8-7). The teams traded two goals apiece and the score was 10-9 with 15:28 to go. Molloy scored twice for a 12-9 edge and was seemingly in control with 8:39 to play. However, the Rams stormed back with goals by Erin Eckert (7:26), Stockford (6:21), and Sullivan (4:19) to tie the game. Melanie Goldstein also made two big saves during the stretch to keep Jefferson close.

After Sullivan's tying goal, Erin Campbell won the draw and Sullivan netted her third of the contest to give Jefferson its first lead of the day with 2:53 left. The Lions recovered and found the equalizer with 58 ticks remaining on the clock. The Rams won the ensuing draw but turned it over with under 30 seconds to go. However, a Molloy defender tried to roll the ball to her goalkeeper for a clearing attempt and Caffrey sprinted from behind the net to intercept it and quickly dumped it into the goal. The Lions controlled the final draw but Goldstein came up with two more huge stops, including one on a free position opportunity, to seal the win.
