Austin's Walk-Off Single Gives Baseball Key Win Versus Goldey-Beacom

PHILADELPHIA – Zack Austin hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Thomas Jefferson University baseball team a wild, 8-7 win over visiting Goldey-Beacom in a CACC game on Tuesday. The Rams increased their win streak to three games and they are 14-7 with an 11-4 conference record.

GAMEPLAY
The Lightning struck first with a solo homer in the opening frame. Jefferson tied the score in the second with an RBI single by Arturo Figueroa. The Rams took the lead in the third on a wild pitch. Goldey-Beacom then went back in front with a two-run double in the fourth.

GBC increased its advantage to three (5-2) in the seventh, plating two runs with a home run to center. Jefferson got within two when Efrain Santiago registered a sacrifice fly in the bottom half. The Rams flipped the script and went ahead with a four-run eighth inning. Alex Gonzalez tripled in a pair and Richard Joa blasted a two-run shot over the fence in left for his conference-leading seventh of the year.

The Lightning did not quit, however, tying the score with a two-run single up the middle in the top of the ninth. In the bottom of the ninth, Santiago started with a lead-off walk then stole second. Austin came up and smacked a base hit up the middle to plate Santiago and give Jefferson the victory.
