Volleyball Defeats Bloomfield And Guarantees CACC Playoff Spot

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – The Thomas Jefferson University volleyball team (17-6, 11-2 CACC) earned a 3-1 victory at Bloomfield (12-6, 11-2 CACC) in conference action on Saturday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bears got out to a 3-0 lead in the opening set but the Rams came back to even the score at five. It was the first of five ties with the last coming at nine apiece. Jefferson then went on a 7-1 run to go ahead 16-10. The Rams later scored six of the last seven and won the frame 25-14.
 
Bloomfield scored the first two points of the second but the Rams answered with seven in a row. However, the Bears clawed their way back and tied the score at 10. With the teams tied at 15, Jefferson posted six of seven to take a 21-16 advantage but Bloomfield responded with nine of the next 11 to stun the Rams and take the set 25-23.
 
In the third, the two sides were even at five before the Rams took over with a 7-0 surge. They did not trail the rest of the way and had a 25-14 victory. The score was level at 11 in the fourth when Jefferson pulled in front with a 5-0 stretch. The Bears were able to cut the deficit to two but the Rams fended them off and went on to win the set 25-21.

- It was Jefferson's eighth consecutive win against Bloomfield.
- The Rams have won five straight matches for the second time this season.
 
CACC PLAYOFF PICTURE
Jefferson secured a playoff spot with Saturday's victory and pulled into a tie with Holy Family for first place in the South Division. The Rams can clinch a top-two finish and a home game for the quarterfinals next time out with a win plus losses by Wilmington and Chestnut Hill.
