PHILADELPHIA – The number-one overall seed Thomas Jefferson University volleyball team (22-6) survived a scare from the North Division's fourth seed, Post, on Monday night, defeating the Eagles (10-20) in a five-set thriller in the quarterfinals of the CACC Tournament.
The Rams advance to take on Bridgeport, the second seed in the North Division, in the semifinals on Saturday, November 12
th at 1 p.m. The remainder of the conference tournament will be played at Holy Family.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Post surprised Jefferson out of the gate, taking the opening set by a 25-19 score. The teams were even at 12 before the Eagles went on a 9-2 run to take a 21-14 advantage and never looked back.
In the second, the score was tied at eight prior to a 7-1 surge by the Rams. Post cut the deficit to two (15-13) but Jefferson pulled away for good with seven straight points and went on to take the frame 25-16.
The Rams got out to a 15-6 lead in the third set. The Eagles came no closer than eight points as Jefferson cruised to a 25-14 victory.
The teams were level at 15 apiece in the fourth frame but then Post took control with nine of the next 12 points. The Eagles forced a decisive fifth set with a 25-20 triumph.
Post got out in front early in the fifth and held a 6-3 advantage. The Rams answered with five of the next six for an 8-7 edge before the Eagles tied it up with a kill. With the score even at nine, Jefferson took over once and for all with five straight points and went on to clinch the match with a 15-11 decision.
