Men's Basketball Defeats Nyack To Move On To CACC Semifinals

PHILADELPHIA – In Head Coach Herb Magee's final game at the Gallagher Center, the Thomas Jefferson University men's basketball team (21-5) dispatched Nyack, 83-69, in the CACC quarterfinals on Tuesday night.
 
The Rams advance to the conference semifinals where they will face Dominican (N.Y.) on Saturday, March 5 at 12 p.m. The remainder of the CACC Tournament will be contested at Caldwell University.
 
Jefferson is the tournament's number one overall seed while Dominican is the North Division's second seed. Nyack was the fourth seed in the North.
 
GAMEPLAY
The Rams opened the game with a 7-0 run. Four different players scored during the stretch. The score was 9-2 when the Warriors came back with six straight points to trail by one (9-8). Deondre Bourne made back-to-back buckets for Jefferson to make it 13-8 but Nyack responded with seven of the next nine to even the score at 15 with 10:11 on the clock.
 
The Rams then went off for a 14-1 surge to take a 29-16 advantage. Four players contributed to the run. Trailing 31-18, the Warriors rallied for 15 of the next 17 points to cut the deficit to three (33-30) with 1:40 left. Connor Murphy drilled a three for Jefferson to give the Rams a six-point cushion (36-30) at the half.
 
In the second half, Jefferson clung to a six-point edge (41-35) with 16:29 on the clock. The Rams tallied five in a row to up the margin to 11 (46-35). Murphy hit another triple at 11:46 to make it 55-42. Nyack followed with six points to close the gap to seven (55-48) with 9:01 left. It was still a seven-point difference (61-54) with 5:57 to go when Jefferson pulled away with a 14-4 run that ended at 2:03 with the score 75-58. Murphy and Bourne each had six points during the rally.
