Softball Defeated Twice By Caldwell

CALDWELL, N.J. – The Thomas Jefferson University softball team (3-7, 2-2 CACC) dropped both games of its conference doubleheader at Caldwell on Saturday afternoon.
 
GAME ONE – L, 12-3 (6 inn.)
The Rams scored the first run of the opener on a two-out RBI double by Annie Eliason in the second. The Cougars took over with five runs in the third. Caldwell recorded a three-run double and an RBI single and also capitalized on a Jefferson error.
 
Both teams pushed a run across in the fourth. Eliason added her second RBI double of the day and the Cougars tallied a run-scoring single. Caldwell upped the margin to six (8-2) with a solo homer and an RBI double in the fifth.
 
Sam Gomez got the Rams within five (8-3) with an RBI base hit in the sixth but the Cougars ended the game early with four runs in the bottom half. Caldwell registered an RBI single and blasted a "walk-off" three-run home run.

GAME TWO – L, 6-1
Caldwell got on the board in the second, plating two runs on an error. The Cougars made it 4-0 in the third via a sacrifice fly and an RBI double.
 
The Rams struggled offensively, posting just two hits and three baserunners through the first six frames. After Caldwell increased its advantage to six with a run-scoring double and a sac fly in the sixth, Jefferson ended the shutout bid in the seventh. Sam Gomez and Annie Eliason both singled then a wild pitch put runners on second and third with no outs. Gomez scored on an error to make it 6-1 but a double play ended the Rams' chances at a comeback.
