Softball Goes 1-1 Versus USciences

PHILADELPHIA – The Thomas Jefferson University softball team (7-17, 6-8 CACC) split a conference doubleheader versus city rival USciences on Tuesday.
 
GAME ONE – W, 8-0 (5 inn.)
Both teams were scoreless through the first three innings. The Rams broke through in the fourth and went off for six runs. Cayla Kalani scored on an error, Emily Kuberski singled in a run, Julia Heine drove in two with a base hit, Dallas Urban recorded a sacrifice fly, and Sam Gomez smacked an RBI double.
 
In the fifth, the Devils loaded the bases with just one out but Gianna DeLorenzo induced a pair of fly outs and kept the visitors off the board. Jefferson then knocked in two runs in the bottom half to end the game due to the eight-run rule. Ali Murphy and Heine recorded back-to-back run-scoring singles.

GAME TWO – L, 2-0
It was a pitcher's duel in the nightcap with the game remaining scoreless into the seventh. The two offenses produced just five combined hits through the first six frames and there was a stretch of 19 consecutive batters retired.
 
In the seventh, the Devils put the lead-off hitter aboard on an error. After a sacrifice bunt, Taylor Hamm homered to left center to give USciences a 2-0 lead. Ellie Egher led off the bottom of the seventh with a double for the Rams. However, the next three Jefferson batters were sat down as Paige Schlechter completed the shutout for the Devils.
