DeLorenzo Tosses Two Shutouts To Lead Softball Past Felician

PHILADELPHIA – The Thomas Jefferson University softball team (9-19, 8-10 CACC) recorded a pair of shutouts to sweep visiting Felician on Wednesday afternoon.
 
GAME ONE – W, 8-0 (5 inn.)
The Rams jumped on the Golden Falcons early with four runs in the first inning. Julia Heine doubled in a run, Annalise Pudimott registered a sacrifice fly, Sam Gomez came home on an error, and Victoria Juckniewitz hit an RBI double. All four runs in the frame were unearned thanks to three errors by the Golden Falcons.
 
Jefferson increased its lead to five in the third on an RBI groundout by Pudimott. In the circle, Gianna DeLorenzo shut down the Felician offense, allowing just three hits through five innings.
 
The Rams had an opportunity to end the game early due to the eight-run rule and they delivered with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. With runners on second and third and two away, Ellie Egher came through with a pinch-hit, two-run double to make it 7-0. After a hit by pitch and a strikeout passed ball allowed the inning to continue, Ali Murphy walked it off with an RBI single up the middle.

Jefferson struck in the first once again with Julia Heine coming around on a double by Sam Gomez. The Rams tacked on a pair of runs in the fourth with Ali Murphy and Winnai Hoyt recording back-to-back RBI singles.
 
Gianna DeLorenzo continued to dominate in the pitching circle, conceding just five hits for her second complete-game shutout of the day. She retired nine in a row at one point and sat down 15 of the final 16 hitters she faced.

CACC PLAYOFF PICTURE
The Rams are currently tied with Felician for the eighth and final playoff spot but now own the tiebreaker over the Golden Falcons. Jefferson has a two-game lead over Goldey-Beacom and trails Dominican (7-7) by percentage points but the Chargers have played four less games. The Rams have six games remaining in the regular season.
