Jefferson Claims Its Ninth CACC Women's Restaino Cup; Rams Place Fourth In Men's Standings

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Following a strong showing in several female sports during the 2021-22 campaign, Thomas Jefferson University claimed the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Alfred R. Restaino, Sr. Cup, as announced on Wednesday by Commissioner Dan Mara.

The Rams posted an average score of 10.6563 to claim the trophy, narrowly edging out Georgian Court University, which finished second in the standings with a mark of 10.2500. Holy Family University rounded out the top three with a third-place effort of 9.8214.

The point system used for the award takes into account each athletic program's finish in both the 2021-22 CACC regular season contests and conference tournaments. Each institution receives a combined point total and the sum is then divided by the number of women's sports the institution competed in during this past season. The award is named after the late Bloomfield College Director of Athletics and Head Coach Alfred R. Restaino, Sr., who served a vital role in not just the school's athletic department but also in the enhancement of the CACC.

Jefferson bolted out of the gates during the fall season highlighted by CACC Championships in cross country, soccer and volleyball. The women's tennis team also advanced to the conference final, and the winter and spring seasons saw several more teams turn in solid showings. The women's basketball program advanced to the CACC Championship Final, while lacrosse placed second in the regular season standings and reached the semis of the CACC tournament.

Georgian Court nearly caught the Rams in the standings following an outstanding spring that saw the Lions raise championship hardware in softball, lacrosse and track & field. HFU's solid third-place showing was aided by regular season titles in soccer and volleyball, while track & field and cross country finished second and third in their respective conference championship events.
