Men's Soccer Blanks Goldey-Beacom For Second Straight Shutout

PHILADELPHIA – The Thomas Jefferson University men's soccer team (4-4, 3-0 CACC) picked up its second straight shutout on Tuesday, defeating visiting Goldey-Beacom (0-9, 0-4 CACC), 2-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lightning tallied the first two shots of the afternoon in the eighth minute but it was all Rams for several minutes afterwards. Jefferson earned a pair of corner kicks then put a shot over the top of the cage. The Rams' attack continued though, and the effort resulted in a goal in the 15th minute. Luke Wojciechowski tossed a long throw into the box where Gabe Paz settled the ball and tapped over to Kalvin Matischak. Matischak found the upper left corner with a blast to put Jefferson up 1-0.

Goldey-Beacom had an opportunity to tie near the end of the first half. Matteo Crescente came out of the Rams' goal to challenge and the shot found its way through, but the Jefferson defense cleared it out before it could cross the goal line.

In the second period, Jefferson added an insurance goal in the 65th minute. The Rams earned a corner kick and the boot went to the far side of the box. The ball was headed back towards the goal by Marco Senatore and Matischak before Theophilus Ijeboi finished the chance, heading the ball into the left side of the net. Jefferson did not allow a shot the rest of the way.
