Women's Soccer Rallies to Take 4-3 Victory Over Dominican

PHILADELPHIA – After trailing 2-0 early in the first half and 3-2 heading into the break, the Thomas Jefferson University women's soccer team (9-2-2, 7-0-1) keep their perfect conference record in tact with a 4-3 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory against Dominican University of New York (3-6-3, 2-3-3) in Saturday afternoon competition.

WHAT HAPPENED
The Chargers struck first with a goal to the left of the net at the 6th minute mark to get ahead of the Rams. Dominican would add to their lead at the 10th minute from a free kick off a yellow card on Jefferson to go up 2-0 early in the matchup. After a few missteps, the Rams would get their chance to cut the lead on a corner. Mia Ferrara would hit the ball right to Avery Nogami, who would give a header to it with just enough force that it would be out of the goalies fingertips and fall into the net to make the match 2-1 at the 25th minute.

Each team would have chances at free goals, but would miss them by a few feet to keep the game still intact.  After a yellow card gave the Rams a free kick, Ferrara would take the opportunity into her own feet and take a shot at the net, which would hit the goalie in the fingers and pop out to the net and even the score at 2-2 at the 36th minute. The Chargers would respond less than three minutes later with a goal and keeping their 3-2 lead heading into the break.

The second half would be a slow start for Jefferson as they would only take two shots in the first 16 minutes. Eventually, Devin Sullivan would drive to the left of the net and passed the ball right past the goalie, letting the ball stay near the goal until Alexa Callahan made her shot and even the score at 3-3. Not letting the momentum go, Sullivan gave Nikki Dedes a chance to make it in the net, but was denied by the goalie. Once again, the ball stayed near the front of the net and Callahan replicated her first goal and added one more for herself, pushing Jefferson ahead 4-3 as the Rams scored two goals in less than a minute.

The Chargers would take four more shots in the second half to try and tie the game up, but Liv Riddel and the rest of the Jefferson defense held on and earned the 4-3 conference win.

Before the start of the game, Jefferson honored their women's soccer senior on Senior Day.
