Volleyball Remains Perfect in Conference Play with Sweep Over Wilmington (Del.)
WILMINGTON, DE. - Thomas Jefferson University volleyball team (9-7, 6-0) had two close sets before running away in the last one to earn a 3-0 sweep over Wilmington University (Delaware) (9-8, 3-3) to remain undefeated in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play.
WHAT HAPPENED
The first set saw the Rams go ahead 6-0 to begin the game. The Wildcats would bring themselves back, cutting the lead to 9-7 in favor of Jefferson. The Rams would take six of the next nine points to keep their lead afloat, but Wilmington went on a 7-0 run to give themselves the 17-15 lead. An error and four kills later, the Rams would once again be up 20-17. Jefferson would keep their attack going and be up 24-20, but three straight points put the Wildcats in position to force more points in the set. The next serve would not allow that as it would fly too far outside, giving the Rams the 25-23 win in the first set.
The Wildcats would switch roles in the second set as they would be ahead 7-1 to begin the set. Wilmington would keep adding to their lead as they made it 12-5 before an 8-1 run by the Rams made the score even at 13-13. Both teams would go on runs as Wilmington would take three in a row before the Rams scored the next five to be up 18-16. After the score was even at 19-19, a 5-1 run placed the Rams up in match point once again. After Wilmington took the next point and looked to continue the set, a service error mirroring the last set gave Jefferson the 25-21 win and a 2-0 lead.
The Rams made it a point to take this series as they went ahead 8-2. Wilmington would make it 8-5 and 11-8 to get within three of Jefferson, but the Rams would pick up their offensive attack as they'd go on a 12-1 run to take a commanding 23-9 lead. The Wildcats would get six points at the end of the set, but an error would force a third straight end to Wilmington, giving Jefferson the 25-14 win and a 3-0 sweep on the day.
