Volleyball Concludes Regular Season with Sweep Over Bloomfield
PHILADELPHIA – Thomas Jefferson University volleyball team (17-10, 13-3) came into this contest securing the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) South Division for the second straight season and clinched a home playoff game for the CACC Championship this Tuesday, but were looking to make a definitive conclusion for their seniors as the Rams took the CACC matchup victory with a 3-0 sweep over Bloomfield in Saturday afternoon action on Senior Day.
WHAT HAPPENED
The Bears came into this contest looking to make an upset in the regular season finale, going up 7-4 over Jefferson early in the first set. Bloomfield would keep up with the Ram's, staying ahead 12-9. Jefferson would show why they are the No.1 seed in the South as they would go on a 11-2 run anchored by three
Jess Molen kills. The Rams would make sure to end the first set with the advantage, taking five of the next seven points to win 25-16.
Bloomfield would get onto another hot start with the game tied at three, the Bears would take the next four points and be up 7-3. Bloomfield would keep the lead going, staying ahead 11-6 off a Esther Dogbe block and a Kyomaris Morales kill. Jefferson would cut away at the lead, making the game 16-12 before the Rams would end the second set on a 13-1 run with three
Sam Mann and
Morgan Ritchie kills along with a block by both Rams to win 25-17 and be up 2-0.
The Bears would look to force three more sets for the Rams as Bloomfield would go up 5-0 to begin the third. Jefferson would keep cutting into the lead, but Bloomfield would capitalize on Ram mistakes and earn points, eventually staying ahead 13-12. Jefferson would begin to get the lead in this set, going on a 5-1 run to be ahead 17-14. Both teams would begin to trade points, but the Rams would have a 4-1 run near the end of the set to be ahead 24-18 with match point. After two points earned for Bloomfield, an attack error would give the Rams the 25-20 win and secure the 3-0 sweep in the season finale matchup.
