No. 5 Men's Soccer Scores Early; Holds 2-1 Win over No. 4 Wilmington
WILMINGTON, DE. - No. 5 Thomas Jefferson University men's soccer team (9-8) scored two early goals in the matchup and held that lead to the end of the contest as the Ram's secured a 2-1 CACC Championship Quarterfinals win against No. 4 Wilmington University of Delaware (8-6-4) in Monday afternoon action.
WHAT HAPPENED
Jefferson looked to get redemption in the contest as it was a rematch of last year's Quarterfinals contest against the Wildcats, which ended in a 2-1 defeat for the Rams. They would look to start it off early, 1:37 into the game early, as Gabe Paz scored off a Diego Guzman pass to get the Rams up 1-0. The Wildcats would respond at the 9th minute mark with their own goal to even it out at 1-1. Jefferson would take not even a little less than two minutes to go back ahead, as Paz earned his second goal of the contest to go ahead 2-1 at the 11th minute.
The game would stay the same score in the first half, with the Wildcats taking 13 shots in that timespan while the Rams had 5 in the half.
The second half would be pretty scoreless as well, with only 9 shots from Wilmington in this period. They would still have more attempts than Jefferson, who had five once again. Matte Crescente had four of his nine saves in the second half, including one in the final seconds to secure a 2-1 win, advancing Jefferson to the semi-finals.
