BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Thomas Jefferson University softball team (10-16, 4-8 CACC) split a non-conference doubleheader at Bloomsburg (13-21, 7-7 CACC) on Tuesday.
GAME ONE – W, 5-4
The Rams got on the board first with two runs in the third inning.
Emily Akelaitis knocked in
Annalise Pudimott with a squeeze bunt and
Winnai Hoyt hit an RBI infield single.
Angelina Sherba held the Huskies scoreless until the fifth, when Bloomsburg cut the deficit to one with an RBI single.
Jefferson tallied three key insurance runs in the sixth.
Bridget Shields recorded a sacrifice fly and
Ali Murphy smacked a big two-out, two-run triple to make the score 5-1. The Huskies had a sac fly in the bottom of the sixth to get within three (5-2) then crushed a two-run homer in the seventh to close the gap to one (5-4). Bloomsburg then put two runners on with two outs but a fielder's choice out secured the victory for the Rams.

GAME TWO – L, 6-5
Jefferson opened the scoring in the first as
Emily Akelaitis bashed her second home run of the season for a 1-0 lead. However, the Huskies posted five runs in the second to go in front. Bloomsburg registered a two-run double and a bases-clearing, three-run double.
Akelaitis drove in two more runs with a base hit in the third and
Bridget Shields came home on an error to get the Rams within one (5-4). The Huskies restored a two-run advantage with an RBI single in the bottom of the third.
In the fifth, Akelaitis continued her strong game, blasting her second long ball of the contest to make the score 6-5. However, Jefferson managed just one hit the rest of the way and suffered the loss.
