PHILADELPHIA – The Thomas Jefferson University baseball team (20-15) came up short in the Bill Giles Invitational Championship on Tuesday, falling to West Chester (23-12), 5-2, at Citizens Bank Park.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rams scored the first run of the contest on
Marquise Wood's RBI single in the third. However, the Golden Rams came back with three runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 3-1 lead. One run scored on a wild pitch and two came home on a base hit to center.
Jefferson narrowed the gap to one (3-2) in the sixth when
Justin Espinal smacked a two-out RBI double down the left field line. The Rams had the tying run in scoring position in the seventh but West Chester recorded a strikeout to end the frame. The Golden Rams then tacked on two big insurance runs in the bottom of the inning via a pair of RBI singles. The Rams could not recover, going down in order in the eighth and ninth.
