PHILADELPHIA – The Thomas Jefferson University baseball team (20-16, 9-5 CACC) fell behind early and could not recover in a 7-5 loss to Goldey-Beacom (25-13, 10-5 CACC) in a CACC game on Wednesday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lightning led off the contest with a double and the run scored on a groundout. The Rams had the tying run at third with one out in the bottom of the inning but could not get it home. GBC then went off for five runs in the second. All five runs were unearned.
Jefferson got on the board in the third with
Marquise Wood and
Josh Lopez recording an RBI double and single respectively with two outs to make it 6-2. The Rams left the bases loaded in the fourth and fifth innings with Wood blasting a solo homer in-between to cut the deficit to three (6-3).
Jefferson went down in order in the sixth and the Lightning scored a wild pitch in the seventh to go ahead four (7-3).
Jay Kalieta recorded a sacrifice fly and Wood came home on an error to get the Rams within two (7-5) in the eighth. Jefferson led off the ninth with a hit but the next three batters were retired.
