PHILADELPHIA – The Thomas Jefferson University women's soccer team battled back from a two-goal deficit to salvage a 2-2 draw versus second-ranked West Chester, the 2022 national runner-up, in the season opener for both squads at Ravenhill Field on Thursday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams played solid defense in the first half with each allowing just two shots. However, one from the Golden Rams found the back of the net as a free kick was deflected in with a header in the 32
nd minute.
West Chester upped its advantage to 2-0 in the second half as Kaitlynn Haughey scored her second of the contest with a seeing-eye shot that found its way inside the right post from 20 yards out in the 52
nd minute.
The Rams finally broke through in the 56
th minute after they were awarded a free kick 25 yards from goal.
Mia Ferrara booted the opportunity just under the crossbar to put Jefferson on the board.
The home squad then found the equalizer in the 60
th minute, again off a free kick chance.
Anna Midock took the kick and
Devin Sullivan got her head on it and put it into the cage to even things up at two. The two sides combined for nine shots the rest of the way but neither could find the go-ahead tally.
