Volleyball Splits Last Two Games in Crimson Hawk Classic 


INDIANA, PA. - Thomas Jefferson University volleyball team (4-5) concluded the Crimson Hawk by splitting the last two games of the event. The Rams won the first game of the day against D'Youville University (2-9) 3-1 but drop their last contest against Indiana University of Pennsylvania (8-4) 3-1. 

MATCH ONE: W, 3-1 vs D'YOUVILLE 
Jefferson would begin the day with an early lead in the first set, going up 7-4 before adding to it to make it 11-6. The Saints would keep up with Jefferson, trading points and earning three in a row to make D'Youville only trailing by two. The Rams would go on a 7-2 run to finish the first set 15-18. Both teams would take three points in a row to start the second set, making it even until a kill by the Saints gave them a 7-6 lead. Jefferson would take the next four points and go up 11-7. D'Youville would tie the game at 16-16. The Rams would regain the lead once again, but the Saints would trail only 22-21 near the end of the second. Once again, the Rams would score the last three points to take the second set 25-21.  

The Saint would jump out early by taking the first five points of the set. Jefferson would take the next four and eventually tie the game at 9-9. D'Youville would go on a 9-3 run as they retook the lead 18-12. The Rams would make another rally, scoring 10 of the next 14 points to tie the game once more, but the Saints would finish the set earning three of the last four to earn the third set victory 25-23.  

The fourth set would have it even once more, as both teams were tied at 8-8. After two points from the Saints, Jefferson would take the next six and be up 14-10. The Rams would finish the last as they went on a 11-6 run to conclude the fourth with a 25-16 win and a 3-1 victory.

MATCH TWO: L, 1-3 vs IUP 
The Crimson Hawks would go up early as they took the lead 8-2. After the Rams would only be down four points 12-8, IUP would go on a 10-1 run as they extended their lead to 22-9. The Crimson Hawks would score three of the last points to take the first set 25-11. Jefferson would try to take the next set as they would get ahead 6-3 in the second. IUP would push back and tie it at 11-11. The Rams would score the next four points and go on a 7-3 run to push ahead 18-13. The Rams would get ahead 6-3 in the second. IUP would push back and tie it at 11-11. The Rams would score the next four points and go on a 7-3 run to push ahead 18-13. Jefferson would keep their lead intact as they got into match point with a 24-21 advantage before the Crimson Hawks scored three in a row to tie it all at 24. Both teams would exchange points and get close to match point, but the Rams would take the opportunity by two kills in the end to win the second set 29-27.  

After starting the third tied at 3-3, IUP would go on a 6-0 run to take a 9-3 lead. The Crimson Hawks would not let up, earning points efficiently until the would go on another run, this time a six-point run and have a 22-9 lead. Jefferson would cut into it with some of their own points, but IUP finished the third set with a 25-13 win. The Rams would tried to force a fifth set as they got out ahead 5-3 to start the fourth before another IUP run would push them ahead 9-5. With the score at 11-6 in favor of the Crimson Hawks, both teams would begin to exchange points to have it at 18-13. IUP would score seven of the last 11 points to conclude the fourth set 25-17 and take the series 3-1.
