Two Early Goals Gives Men's Soccer CACC Victory over Wilmington
PHILADELPHIA – Thomas Jefferson University men's soccer team (3-5-0, 2-2-0) scored within the first five minutes of the game and held that lead to earn a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win over Wilmington University (Delaware) (1-4-2, 0-2-0) in Wednesday afternoon action.
WHAT HAPPENED
The Rams wasted little time as
TJ Hibsman scored at the 2
nd minute off a shot that gave Jefferson the 1-0 lead. Trying to get another goal added,
Matty Harmon passed it to
Kai Mangahas who's shot was saved, but a rebound to
Gabe Paz set him up to score the second goal for the Rams at the 5
th minute mark to be up 2-0 early in the contest. The Wildcats would try to get some offense going and cut the lead as they held the shot advantage 15-4 in the first half. Jefferson would keep ahold of their lead, with good defensive play and three saves by
Matteo Crescente pushed them into the half up 2-0.
The second half saw more even production, with Wilmington still shooting eight shots compared to Jefferson's five. The Wildcats would eventually get on the board with a goal to the left side of the net cut the lead to 2-1, but the Rams would hold onto the advantage to the end of the game and earn the conference win.
