Men's Basketball Suffers First Defeat of Season to West Chester
WEST CHESTER, PA – Thomas Jefferson University men's basketball (4-1) fought back in the second half and had the lead with 10:46 left in the game, but the Golden Rams kept their tempo as the Rams dropped their first game of the season 78-70 to West Chester University (2-2) in non-conference Wednesday action.
WHAT HAPPENED
- Game started off early with both teams trading points back-and-forth. Farouk Kaba, Sean Fullerton, and Jeremiah Dorsey made three pointers as the contest was even at 15-15 halfway through
- The Golden Rams went to score the next nine points for a 24-15 advantage
- The Rams outscored West Chester 16-12 in the final 5:48 minutes with Troy McGregor, Ashton Miller, Justin Hawkins, Dorsey, and Kaba all getting baskets during that stretch. Jefferson still trailed to the Golden Rams 36-31 at the break
- Jefferson went off in the second half, scoring 11 points in the first five minutes to trail West Chester by two. Miller had seven points of his team-leading 26 points during that stretch. Dorsey put back-to-back layups for the Rams
- Dorsey gave the Rams a quick lead off a three pointer and Kaba took it right back with an and-one conversion to have Jefferson up 48-47
- West Chester and Jefferson traded baskets multiple times to change the lead, but a three by Anthony Purnell Jr that kept the Golden Rams ahead
- Fullerton nailed his shot from beyond the arc, but a 17-11 stretch at the end for the Golden Rams was too much for Jefferson to handle, giving the Rams their first setback of the season
