Women's Volleyball Finishes Season in Semifinals Against Georgian Court
LAKEWOOD, N.J. – Thomas Jefferson University women's volleyball (15-18) looked to continue their run for a fourth straight appearance in the conference title game. The Rams fought against host Georgian Court University (20-9), but were unable to get past the Lions as Jefferson dropped the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship Semifinals game 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.
WHAT HAPPENED
- Rams and Lions traded points and leads evenly in the first set. A three-kill run that saw Morgan Martin and Morgan Ritchie kills early on while the Lions produced five of the next six points
- Emily McKenna and Caroline Bond joined Jefferson's athletes with kills of their own with Bond and Ritchie getting blocks alongside Pemi Areola and Liz Tanis
- Jefferson only trailed by one point, but the Lions earned three of the final five points to take the first set 25-23
- Georgian Court took control of the second set, going up 12-1 early on. The Lions kept their lead going, staying ahead of the Rams 21-12
- Jefferson acquired seven of the next eight points as four McKenna kills had the Rams trail by three points. Georgian Court ended the set with three kills to take the second set 25-19
- With the third set being important to both squads, the Rams and Lions each had runs early in the contest. Bond and Martin had a kill during the early three point run for Jefferson. The Lions put up four in a row as they went ahead 9-7
- After trailing Georgian Court 10-9, the Rams went on a 12-3 run to get up over Georgian Court 21-13. Ritchie produced four kills while Bond and Martin added two apiece. Jefferson finished the set 25-16, going into the fourth trailing 2-1 with momentum on their side
- The fourth set was similar to the first, with both teams tying it up early at 6-6 with a McKenna and Jaysa Even block as well as a Ritchie ace. The Lions went up 12-8, but Jefferson fought to make it 15-15 as Martin produced three kills
- After another back-and-forth that saw the set at 18-18, Georgian Court finished the day with a 7-1 run, concluding the fourth 25-19 and defeating Jefferson 3-1 in the Semifinals match
