Women's Lacrosse Slips in Rainy Conditions as They Fall to Millersville
PHILADELPHIA – On a rainy afternoon at Ravenhill Field, the Thomas Jefferson University women's lacrosse team (0-2) had their home opener of the season go down as a defeat as the Rams dropped their matchup to Millersville University (1-0) 14-4 in non-conference action.
WHAT HAPPENED
The Marauders got out to an early 2-0 lead, scoring both goals in less than a minute of one another. Jefferson got on the board at the 7:43 mark, with Ellie Lefton getting through the defense and making it in the back of the net for the Rams. The Marauders kept the rest of the pace for the rest of the first half, scoring the next eight in a row to maintain a 10-1 lead at the break.
Millersville continued to score as they put up two goals early in the third, putting them up 12-1. Rams eventually answered back with a Lynn Hardy goal with 2:52 in the third as Jefferson trailed 12-2 with one quarter of play to go. The Rams, who fought through rough weather for most of the third and fourth quarter as the rain began to fall, kept up with the Marauders in goals as they each had two apiece in the final period. Millersville had the first goal with 7:11 to go, prompting Gabby Modzelewski to score her own four minutes later. The Marauders knocked another shot into the net with 1:28 to finish their scoring day, but Iris Gluck hit the back of the net for the Rams in the final 20 seconds to end the day for the Rams in a 14-4 defeat.

With her assist on the day, graduate student Erin Avanzato eclipsed the 200 point milestone in her career. She becomes the ninth player in Rams' history to achieve that feat, with teammate Ellie Lefton also achieving that milestone. Erin also joins her sister, Kathryn Avanzato, in that category as she reached that mark in 2018. Erin has made 146 goals and delivered 54 assists in her career early in this season.
