Softball Splits Against Dominican in CACC Opening Matchup
ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – The Thomas Jefferson University softball team (6-5, 1-1) began Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) competition this evening when they took on Dominican University of New York (3-12, 1-1). Jefferson took game one 4-0 against the Chargers, but the Rams fell in game two 10-1 in five innings to the Chargers.
WHAT HAPPENED
GAME ONE: W, 4-0
The Rams and Chargers were scoreless through the first four innings, neither team getting on the board. Dominican had a shot in the first with a runner advancing to home only to get out from a throw by center field to the catcher. No other opportunity appeared as close as that for Dominican.
The Rams got on the board by a single from
Remy Smith, bringing
Rozalee Negron to Homeplate and getting the first score on the board for Jefferson. Negron returned the favor as she brought
Cayla Kalani to home for another run.
Bridget Shields nailed a single to right center field, getting two Rams to homeplate as they secured a 4-0 win in game one.

Jefferson started the game with a score, with Shields hitting a sacrifice fly to get Negron at home plate. The Chargers would respond with three first inning runs. After adding another in the second, Dominican put up six in the third inning, getting their lead to 10-1.
The Rams tried to respond in the fourth and fifth but were unable to, with the five inning rule taking effect for Dominican's 10-1 win.
