Softball Splits with Millersville

PHILADELPHIA – The Thomas Jefferson University softball team (7-6) competed in a non-conference doubleheader against Millersville University (9-8). The first matched ended with the Marauders winning 8-0 in five innings, while the Rams responded with a 5-0 win in game two.

WHAT HAPPENED
GAME TWO: W, 5-0

Jefferson stopped the Marauders form getting any score in the game, holding Millersville to four hits. The Rams got on the board with a Rozalee Negron single up the middle that allowed Claudia Alldred on home plate. Sabrina Pastiano delivered the favor back for Negron with a single to the left side that got Jefferson up 2-0. They added three more runs in the third. A walk with the bases loaded brought Jordan Diering to homeplate while Victoria Juckniewitz single got Alldred and Maritza Lopez-Gonzalez home as the Rams made it 5-0.

Gianna DeLorenzo pitched all seven innings with four strike outs, two were in the final inning to secure a 5-0 win for the Rams.

GAME ONE: L, 8-0 (5 INNINGS)
The Marauders scored at the top of the first with the third batter to begin the game, hitting a single that gave Millersville a 1-0 lead. The game became a defensive battle, as each team only allowed the first three batters at plate for two straight innings.

The Marauders broke that line with six runs in the fourth inning. Singles hit down the field, a sacrifice fly, a double down the left line, and a fielding error all helped Millersville hold a 7-0 lead heading into the fifth. They would get their eighth run on the day from an error by the Rams. Jefferson went to get out of the five inning rule at the bottom of the fifth, but all three Rams were struck out, giving Millersville the 8-0 win in the first game.
