Softball Earns Doubleheader Win Over Post
WATERBURY, Conn. - The Thomas Jefferson University softball team (10-7, 4-2) played against Post University (4-24) on Saturday, where the Rams took the doubleheader over the Eagles. Jefferson won game one 7-6 in eight innings while finishing game two in seven innings as they beat Post 10-9 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action.
WHAT HAPPENED
GAME ONE: W, 7-6 (EIGHT INNINGS)
The Rams started out with the lead as Sabrina Pastino sacrifice fly towards right field to allow Rozalee Negron to homeplate for the 1-0 advantage in the first inning. Two more runs were added in the third as a Bridget Shields double got two runners towards home, making the game 3-0 in favor of Jefferson.
The Eagles would not go away though, as a single in the bottom of the third got Post on the board. Another single in the fifth inning brought in two more runners to score, evening it out at 3-3. The Eagles had an opportunity to take the lead in the sixth, with a runner on third base. Gianna DeLorenzo struck out the batter, completing the inning with the game still evened out.
After seven innings with no lead change, the Rams played into extra innings. Jefferson tacked on four runs in the eighth. Victoria Juckniewiz single to right field got a runner to homeplate and a score for the Rams. An error on Post gave Juckniewiz with the bases loaded allowed Juckniewi the opportunity to make homeplate and make the game 5-3 in favor of Jefferson. Shields put a single towards center field to have another two-run hit as Jefferson went up 7-3.
Post got close in the bottom of the eighth, with three runs brought in from back-to-back hits for the Eagles. With the tying run on first and the leading run at bat, the Rams got a fouled out by third baseman to finish the game 7-6 in Jefferson's favor.

The second game started off strong for Jefferson with six runs in the top of the second. The Rams had five singles that got them those six runs, with Annalise Pudimott, Alldred, Cayla Kalani, Negron, and Remy Smith each hit the ball either towards the outfield or to first base. That allowed a runner from third base to homeplate, with Smith's hit towards center field bringing in two runs that made it 6-0.
The Eagles started to slowly get back in the match, with one run in the third and fourth inning. The Eagles delivered a three-run homerun in the fifth to trail the Rams 6-5. Jefferson went in the fifth inning to get four runs for their lead to be 10-5. Alldred sacrifice fly out got Pastino to homeplate, while Kalani, Sage Bolonski, and Negron all singled for three more runs to get their lead back to a five score differential.
After a single run in the eighth, Post started to get back in the final inning. They scored two runs off a single to center field, and a fielder's choice put one more run on the board to make the game 10-9. Two fly outs allowed Jefferson to hold onto their lead and finish the sweep over the Rams.
