Women's Volleyball Pulls Off Upset Against Wilmington; Earns CACC Playoff Berth


PHILADELPHIA – Thomas Jefferson University women's volleyball (11-12, 7-7) were looking to make the final push for postseason play as they top-seed in the south division Wilmington University (17-13, 10-4) to the Gallagher Center on Wednesday. The Rams produced their best game of the season when it mattered the most as they defeated the Wildcats in straight sets to earn a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win and earn a CACC Championship playoff spot. 

WHAT HAPPENED 

  • Jefferson got out early in the first set and held a 19-14 lead. Wilmington clawed back to get within two points. The Rams went to earn the last two points and take set one 25-21 

  • The second set was the statement maker for Jefferson, securing the first eight points to control the momentum and win the set 25-17 

  • Third set went back and forth with the Wildcats trailing by one point to the Rams. Jefferson got back on track to secure 12 points in a row and ultimately won the third set 25-15, earning them the sweep and clinching a spot in the CACC playoffs

Jefferson has secured the fourth seed in the CACC Championship playoffs and will be on the road at Post. Before the Rams head up to Connecticut, they will travel to Lakewood, N.J. on Saturday, November 15 as Jefferson finishes their regular season against Georgian Court University at 11 a.m.
