No.10 Women's Soccer Completed Unbeaten Conference Record for Third Straight Year; Defeats Chestnut Hill
PHILADELPHIA – No.10 nationally-ranked Thomas Jefferson University women's soccer (14-1-1, 10-0-1) looked to not only lock up the No.1 seed in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championships, but also earn their third consecutive unbeaten conference record as they took on Chestnut Hill College (8-7-1, 8-2-1) in CACC competition on Tuesday. The Rams ended up earning the 2-0 win over the Griffins and head into postseason play unbeaten against their fellow CACC competitors and the top-seed.
WHAT HAPPENED
- Jefferson was on the attack all day, taking 12 of their 21 shots in the first half. It proved pivotal in the 8th minute as Kyra Lesko took a shot that was saved, but went high near the net. Evelin Ventura-Garcia raced down and headed the ball into the goal for a 1-0 Rams lead
- The rest of the half looked to be slowed down and seemed to have a 1-0 score into the break, but Jefferson looked to add another off a corner. The attempt was thwarted, but Alexa Callahan hit it back to Mia Ferrara, who attempted a long pass down by the goal. Gianna Garozzo capitalized and netted the ball for a 2-0 lead heading into the break
- The Rams went on the defensive in the second half, not allowing a shot attempt and held on throughout the 45 minutes for the victory
- Carly Hayman secured two saves for her ninth win on the season as well as ninth shutout
