Women's Basketball Defense Shuts Down Bloomsburg
PHILADELPHIA – Thomas Jefferson University women's basketball (8-4) ended 2025 on a high note as they held the Huskies to 24% on the floor and didn't allow one three pointer as the Rams cruised through Bloomsburg University (5-5) to a 55-33 non-conference victory on Tuesday afternoon.
WHAT HAPPENED
- Jefferson pushed the pace early as they jumped out to a 14-4 lead halfway through the first quarter. They eventually went to the second up 17-10. Emily Spratt scored 11 of her 15 points in the opening quarter
- The Rams continued their dominance in the second, allowing only six points to the Huskies while Jefferson added 15 more on the scoreboard. Tori Nigro and Caleigh Sperling each made a three pointer with Gabby Recinto, Jordyn Thomas, and Jade Marquez all getting on the board. The Rams went in the break ahead 32-16
- Bloomsburg did not go down without a fight, outscoring Jefferson 11-10 in the third quarter. Carolyn Sipprell hit two free throws while Sperling, Nigro, and Ana Pellecchia all had a basket as the Rams still lead 42-27 heading into the fourth
- Jefferson went to coast in the fourth, putting up 13 points in the final quarter. Thomas, Spratt, Nigro, and Pellecchia all scored during the final 10 minutes as the Rams won 55-33
- Spratt led all scorers with 15 points on the day while she and Pellechia had 4 steals apiece. Spratt earned a double double with 11 rebounds. Nigro scored nine points while Thomas and Recinto secured eight points. Sperling added seven points off the bench
