Four Point Buzzer Beater Lifts Men's Basketball Over Wilmington
PHILADELPHIA – Down by one point with 18 seconds left in the game,
Jeremiah Dorsey makes a three pointer and gets fouled for a four point play, lifting Thomas Jefferson University men's basketball (4-3, 1-1) out of their three-game skid to take a 76-73 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win over Wilmington University (Del.) (3-4, 0-2) in Wednesday night action.
WHAT HAPPENED
- Both teams shot similarly on the floor as the Rams went 50.0% on the night while the Wildcats had a 48.1 shooting percentage
- The game saw 12 lead changes and 8 times with the score tied
- Jefferson used a 9-2 run to end the first half with a 41-38 lead going to the break
- The game was back-and-forth for majority of the game, with the second half seeing both teams score 35 points apiece
- Wilmington would get a layup and attempt a three-point play off a foul for the and-one. The Wildcats would miss their free throw but still be ahead 73-72 with 18 seconds
- The Rams inbounded the ball and looked to take the lead. Dorsey's pass to Alex Bates IV nearly went out of bounds, but Bates held on and drove to the net. He passed the ball to Dorsey who took his three point shot where he got hit on his way down. Instead of three free throws, Dorsey's shot sunk in the net and elevated Jefferson to a 75-73 lead. His free throw made it a three-point game with two seconds to go
- Wilmington inbounded the ball but were unable to get their shot in the net, giving Jefferson a 76-73 victory
- Dorsey led all scorers with 25 points on the night. Bates followed behind with 17 points. Matt McCool and Sean Fullerton added seven points apiece
