Women's Basketball Earns Two All-CACC Honorees; Murphy and Shirley Secure Yearly Awards

NEW HAVEN, Conn. Cassie Murphy takes home CACC Player of the Year honors as she and Emma Kuczynski make All-CACC recognition, as announced by the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) this afternoon. Head coach Tom Shirley takes home his third straight CACC Coach of the Year award.

Murphy makes All-CACC First Team for the first time in her career, making it her fourth straight All-CACC honors as she was taken on the All-Second Team for three years straight. Emma Kuczynski gets her first All-CACC award, making Second Team for her performance this year. Murphy is the third straight Ram to be named CACC Player of the Year (Haley Meinel in 2022 and Sam Yencha in 2023). This is the sixth PoTY nod for Jefferson in their 20 years in the CACC.

Murphy leads the CACC in Free Throw Percentage with 87.6% (12th in the country), and double doubles as she has 14 (16th in the NCAA). She also leads the conference with 3.3 offensive rebounds-per-game, second with 9.6 rpg, and third in 6.4 defensive rpg. She ranks sixth with 15.2 points-per-game. Murphy also has 65 assists, 27 steals, and 25 blocks this season. The senior has been named the CACC Player of the Week twice and made the CACC Honor Roll six times.

Kuczynski gets her first ever All-CACC Team honors in her career after a year where she averaged 13.8 ppg, 11th in the conference, while being fourth in the CACC as she averaged a 37.1 three-point percentage. She dished out 70 assists, stolen the ball 49 times, and earned 4 blocks. The senior was named CACC Player of the Week twice and earned CACC Honor Roll once. The Tamaqua, Pa. native also made history as the first Ram to take a national-weekly award as she was also named the WBCA-D2SIDA National Player of the Week on November 19. Kuczysnki also joined fellow teammates Murphy and Yencha as the 40th players in Jefferson history to score 1,000 career points.

Shirley takes home his fourth CACC Coach of the Year honors, the third straight for him after earning it in the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons. Shirley took his team to a 22-6 record, getting out of an early season slump and winning 13 in a row to take the CACC South Division. Shirley gets the Rams their seventh straight 20+ win season, 11 out of 13 years (2020-21 was not played due to COVID-19). He also added his name into history as he became the 11th coach in college basketball history to earn 900 career wins. He now sits tied for ninth with 903. He also joins a club in the CACC as the third coach to win Coach of the Year honors for three consecutive years as he joins Mike McLaughlin and Jackie Hartzell.
