No.17 Baseball Bounces Back to Salvage Game Two in Doubleheader Split

HOCKESSIN, DE. – In a clash of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) heavyweights with identical records entering the day, No.17 Thomas Jefferson University walked away with a win from this double header, shutting out No.25 Goldey-Beacom College  5–0 in the second game. With the victory, the Rams improved to 23–9 overall and 15–3 in conference play, pulling ahead of the Lightning (23–9, 13–3 CACC) in the South standings.

WHAT HAPPENED
GAME ONE: L, 8-9
  • Jefferson jumped ahead early, scoring 2 runs in the 1st, including a sac fly by Javon Hernandez and a heads-up steal-and-score by Joshua Lopez on a throwing error. 
  • Goldey-Beacom stormed to a 5-run first inning, fueled by a 3-run homer and a 2-RBI double. 
  • In the 2nd inning, Thomas Matuszewski smacked a 3-RBI double to tie it at 5–5. Jefferson briefly took the lead again in the fifth when Goldey-Beacom dropped sac bunt that allowed a run. 
  • An RBI single in the 7th ultimately sealed it for Goldey-Beacom.

  • After three scoreless frames, Jefferson struck first in the fourth. Joshua Lopez led off with a single and stole third, then dashed home on a throwing error by the catcher to give the Rams a 1–0 lead. 
  • Moments later, Kyle Kozlowski singled home Javon Hernandez, who had reached on a hit-by-pitch, to double the advantage. 
  • The Rams put the game out of reach in the sixth with a three-run burst. Thomas Matuszewski started the rally with a double to center, then scored on an RBI single by Gabe Silva
  • After a single by Luis Beato Mora and a throwing error by the center fielder, Gabe Silva scored and Luis Beato Mora advanced to third. Jay Kalieta then made it 5–0 with a single through the right side.
