Women's Basketball Hold Off Cougars to Earn CACC Win
CALDWELL, N.J. – Thomas Jefferson University women's basketball (10-5, 4-3) went on the road and took on Caldwell University (10-5, 4-4) in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action on Saturday. The Rams held off a late rally by the Cougars in the fourth to leave with a 69-61 win.
WHAT HAPPENED
- First quarter had both teams score 16 points each. Emily Spratt had seven of her 17 points in the quarter. Gabby Recinto produced five points while Tori Nigro scored four. Lucy Coogan put up six points for Caldwell
- Second quarter had Jefferson outscore Caldwell 19-14. The game was back and forth with the Cougars taking the lead from a Neysa Aguilar three pointer. The Rams went on a 10-2 run to go in the half up 35-30. Ana Pellecchia put up six points as she went 2-3 from beyond the arc. Spratt and Recinto had five and four points respectively while Carolyn Sipprell and Caleigh Sperling had a basket each
- The third had both teams score 40 points total with Caldwell edging Jefferson 22-18. Brooke Corbett and Coogan had six points each while Jah'Nel Lewis scored five points alongside Aguilar. The Rams had their best shooting percentage in the game (58.3%) as they went 7-of-12 in the quarter and 3-5 from beyond the arc. Pellecchia put up eight points with Spratt following behind with five
- Fourth quarter saw Caldwell take the lead 56-55 with 6:02 to go. Jefferson was unphased, scoring twice to get ahead 60-56. The Cougars made it a one point game, but the Rams responded with a three-pointer and made the final two free throws to leave New Jersey as 69-61 winners
- Recinto led all scorers with 21 points with Spratt following behind as she had 17. Pellecchia dropped 14 points off the bench. Lucy Coogan had 15 points for Caldwell with Neysa Aguilar and Brooke Corbett having double digit points with 13 and 10 respectively.
