Wheeler's Three Homerun Performance Gives Softball Game 2 Win; Splits Doubleheader Against Lock Haven
LOCK HAVEN, PA – Thomas Jefferson University softball (6-4) went on the road to take on Lock Haven University (8-6) in Sunday afternoon doubleheader. The Bald Eagles took game one 8-4, but Jefferson exploded on offense as they earned the win in game two 13-2 to split the series.
WHAT HAPPENED
GAME TWO: W, 13-2
- Jefferson went on a run in game two as MacKenzie Ward delivered a home run in the top of the first inning. This would be the first of five home runs scored by the Rams. Liv Stevens made it to homeplate on a wild pitch to make it 2-0 after the first inning
- Stevens got Jefferson their second run with a sacrifice flyout to left field, allowing Rozalee Negron to make homeplate and have it 3-0
- After Lock Haven scored on a double to left field in the bottom of the third, Ella Wheeler hit the first of her three home runs in the top of the fourth. She hit a three-run homerun to left field and made it a 6-1 contest. The Bald Eagles responded with a solo homerun in the bottom of the fourth, having it a 6-2 match now
- Wheeler delivered her second home run, this time a two-run hit to left center in the top of the sixth. The Rams led 8-2 off that hit
- Putting the cherry on top, Wheeler added one more home run, this time a grand slam to left field to have a double-digit lead. Kalina Childers capped off the day with a solo home run right after to make it 13-2 and earn the split on the day
- Lauren Bernaiche pitched all seven innings, giving up eight hits and two runs on the mound while retiring four Bald Eagle batters

- First game started off in Lock Haven's favor as Olivia LaMeau hit a RBI single for a 1-0 lead early on. The Bald Eagles put on four more off a Blaire Balestrini grand slam in the top of the bottom of the third
- Stevens got the Rams on the board with a wild pitch in the fourth. Negron added a second run with a one-run double to left center and made it 5-2 from the top of the fifth
- Maci Brodzina had a two-run single and Gianna Goodman scored on a throw to second base that had it 8-2 in the bottom of the sixth. Stevens cut the lead down to four as a two-run home run made it 8-4, but a pop out and strikeout on the final two batters ended the Rams comeback attempt
- Delaney Alix started the day with four innings pitched, allowing six hits and five runs on the day. MaryKate Armstrong went to pitch the final two innings on the mound, giving up three hits and three runs, with only one being earned
