Softball Takes Two Over Staten Island
 
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Thomas Jefferson University softball (8-4) continued their road stretch as they competed against the College of Staten Island (3-5) on Tuesday afternoon. The Rams earned the sweep over the Dolphins, winning game one 6-1 while taking game two 13-3.
 
WHAT HAPPENED
GAME ONE: W, 6-1
  • First game started off early for Jefferson as a Caitlyn Senkow popout to second base allowed the Rams to make homeplate and give the Rams a 1-0 lead off the top of the first. The next inning was similar as Negron hit a single to the left side for another run, making the contest 2-0
  • The bottom of the second and third had Staten Island on third base with Jefferson escaping both instances and holding the Dolphins scoreless
  • The top of the fifth had Wheeler nail a single RBI to the left field to have it 3-0. It went up to 4-0 in the sixth as a walk with the bases loaded brought home another Ram
  • The seventh iced the game as Negron hit a RBI double while MacKenzie Ward grounded out gave Jefferson the 6-0 lead
  • Jianna Lopez hit a sacrifice flyout to get Staten Island on the board, but the Rams secured a 6-1 win in game one
  • Delaney Alix pitched four innings on the day, giving up three hits with no runs as she had three strikeouts on the mound. Bailey Maloney came in to pitch the final three innings, giving up three hits as well while allowing a run. She also earned a strike as well

  • Negron hit a home run as the first at bat for Jefferson to open the game with a 1-0 lead in the first
  • The third had Jefferson score four runs with Ward, Liv Stevens, and Amariah McKnight all having a RBI double while Kalina Chiders hit a single to the right side, making it 5-0 for the Rams
  • Madeline Holmes turned it to a 6-0 contest on a sacrifice flyout to center field. Staten Island responded with two runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it 6-2
  • Three more runs in the top of the sixth had it 9-2. Holmes knocked an RBI double to left field, McKnight had her own sacrifice flyout, and Sabrina Pastino hit an RBI down the middle for each Rams score
  • After the Dolphins scored a run off a double in the sixth, Jefferson concluded the day with four runs in the top of the seventh. Ward had a two RBI single up the middle, Stevens had a fielder's choice, and Holmes hit her second double to complete the 13-3 win over Staten Island
  • Lauren Bernaiche pitched five innings for the win, giving up four hits and two runs with four strikeouts under her belt. MaryKate Armstrong took the final two innings on the day as she had only one hit and one run given up during her time on the mound
  • The Rams batting saw 20 hits on the day, with Ward being a home run short of a cycle as she had a single, double, and triple on the day.
