Softball Gets First Wins on the Season; Sweeps Millersville

NORRISTOWN, PA – Thomas Jefferson University softball (2-0) opened their season in a different setting as they were the host team at Francesco A. Mascaro Park in Norristown, Pennsylvania on Wednesday when the Rams took on Millersville University (2-2). Jefferson was able to take both games over the Marauders and earn the series sweep.

WHAT HAPPENED
GAME ONE: W, 4-1
  • Jefferson went down early in the game as a Troxell single to center field brought a Marauder runner home and made it 1-0 in favor of Millersville in the top of the second
  • The Rams responded in the third as Lily Hutt hit a single to second base that gave Rozalee Negron the opening to make homeplate and tie the game up
  • After a scoreless fourth inning, Jefferson loaded the bases off two singles and a fielder's choice that also saw a throwing error. This set up MacKenzie Ward for a two-run single off past second base. Sabrina Pastino grounded out allowed another Rams run and turned the game to a 4-1 contest
  • Jefferson held the Marauders to only one runner past first base as they took the 4-1 victory in game one
  • Delaney Alix pitched all seven innings for the Rams, allowing five hits and one run while striking out four batters

GAME TWO: W, 3-1
  • The second game started out scoreless for the first three innings as neither team was able to make it to homeplate. Millersville had an opportunity with a runner on first and second. Jefferson stopped that with a fielder's choice that had a runner out at third, a flyout, and a grounder in the second inning
  • The Rams got on the board in the second as a wild pitch got Hutt to home and advanced Ella Wheeler to third. She scored a run as Sydney Lanasa hit a single to the right side and made it a 2-0 game for Jefferson in the bottom of the fourth
  • The Marauders answered right back in the top of the fifth as a sacrifice flyout to left center made it a 2-1 game
  • Devin Brandely put it back up to two scores as a single to the left side allowed Elizabeth Proctor to run the bases and make it a 3-1 game in the bottom of the fifth
  • Millersville looked to get on the board with a runner on first and second in the bottom of the seventh with one out, but a pop up and a liner snuffed that out and helped Jefferson take game two with a 3-1 victory
  • Lauren Bernaiche started the game and pitched 5.2 innings as she allowed four hits and a run while striking out two batters. Bailey Maloney came in relief for the rest of the game and earned the save on the day
