Randy Monroe joined the men's basketball coaching staff prior to the 2020-21 season.
Monroe was the head coach for Division I UMBC from 2004-12, where he was named the America East Coach of the Year in 2008. That year, he led the Retrievers to the America East regular season and tournament titles, earning the program's first-ever NCAA Division I Tournament bid. Monroe was the runner-up for the Hugh Durham National Coach of the Year award, given annually to the most outstanding mid-major men's college basketball head coach in Division I.
Monroe was an assistant coach for UMBC for nine seasons prior to taking over the program. He has also served in assistant roles at Vanderbilt, La Salle, and Cheyney. Monroe was the head coach at Brandywine High School for the 2012-13 campaign and was an assistant coach at St. Joseph's Prep from 2016-20 under Speedy Morris.
Monroe played for the Rams from 1981-84, helping Philadelphia Textile reach the regional title game in 1983. He came to East Falls after a successful prep career at Roman Catholic, where he helped the Cahillites win two Philadelphia Catholic League titles in 1979 and 1980.
Monroe continues to serve St. Joseph's Prep as its Assistant Dean of Students.
