Men's Basketball Unable to Hold Off West Chester Comeback
PHILADELPHIA – Thomas Jefferson University men's basketball (6-5) lead by 17 at the break and 20 during the second half, but the Rams couldn't hold off a rally by the Golden Rams as Jefferson fell 83-79 to West Chester University (7-1) in Thursday evening non-conference action.
WHAT HAPPENED
- West Chester went ahead 4-0 in the first two minutes, but Jefferson produced a 19-0 run that set the tone in the first half. The Rams eventually got themselves up 32-11 halfway through the half
- The Golden Rams began to rally and cut down Jefferson's lead. The Rams were not phased, producing 54 first half points and being up by 17 as they went in the break. Jefferson shot 50% on the floor (17-of-34) and hitting 5-of-13 from beyond the arc while making 15-of-17 free throw attempts
- The second half saw the tides change as West Chester began to slowly come back, matching Jefferson's shots as they used a 9-0 run with 6:31 left in the game to cut the lead down to six. The Rams looked to keep their lead intact as they scored six straight points
- The Golden Rams used a 14-0 run to jump ahead of Jefferson 77-75 as they made three of their seven second half three pointers during that stretch. Two Ram free throws tied it up once more, but West Chester knocked down another three with 48 seconds to go as they were ahead 80-77
- A Rams layup cut the lead to one, but the Golden Rams hit their own shot to force Jefferson to attempt a three. The Rams shot did not go in and West Chester hit one of their free throws as Jefferson fell 83-79
- Jeremiah Dorsey led Jefferson with 16 points with Sean Fullerton and Alex Bates IV having 14 apiece. Shane Cercone added 10 points off the bench
