The Philadelphia University women's tennis team played its first
match of the spring on Saturday, taking a 7-2 decision from visiting East Stroudsburg
University. The victory improves the Lady Rams to 15-4 on the
season with four remaining regular-season events this spring.
Head Coach Marty Gilbert's squad took a 2-1 lead after doubles
play as senior Maddie Smith (pictured) and freshman Adriana
Rodriguez teamed up for an 8-3 win at #1 doubles. For Smith,
she now has 20 doubles victories this season and is just three shy
of Amanda Brennan's single-season school record of 23 set last
year.
Smith and Rodriguez also picked up singles victories at #1 and
#3, respectively, as they remain tied with 19 singles wins to top
the team. Freshman Daniela Rodriguez (#2), sophomore
Christina Kettle (#5) and freshman Stephanie Reinke (#6) were also
victorious in singles play, accounting for the final 7-2 margin.
Up next for the Lady Rams will be Bloomsburg University on the
road on Sunday, March 30th.
