Head Coach John Kelly and his Philadelphia University softball
team suffered a pair of hard-fought losses on the road on Thursday
afternoon, falling by scores of 2-1 and 3-0 at Central
Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) foe Felician College.
With the setbacks, the Lady Rams saw their season-high four-game
winning streak come to an end as they drop to 7-17 overall record
and 3-7 in the conference this season.
In the opener, Kelly's team took a 1-0 lead in the top of the
first inning when freshman outfielder Jen Richard (pictured) scored
on senior Jacque Curtis' RBI double with one out. However,
Golden Falcon's starter Sherry Flynn silenced the Lady Rams' bats
for the remainder of the contest, holding them scoreless and
setting the stage for a Felician rally. In the bottom of the
seventh inning, the Golden Falcons put together a game-winning
two-run inning, collecting four hits to take the decision.
Curtis had a stellar outing on the mound for the Lady Rams,
allowing just two runs and striking out four in 6 1/3 innings of
work, while Richard and senior infielder Janine Becker collected
two hits apiece in a losing effort.
In the second game, the Golden Falcons scored three times in the
first two innings and never looked back. Curtis allowed just
one hit in five scoreless innings of relief while Richard and
senior outfielder Maureen Keenan collected two hits apiece for the
Lady Rams, who will look to get back on the winning track when they
travel to Caldwell College for a league doubleheader on Saturday,
April 12th.
