The Philadelphia University softball team took both games of a
doubleheader on the School House Lane field this afternoon.
The Lady Rams blanked visiting Nyack College 8-0 and
14-0 in two games shortened by the eight-run
rule. Jacque Curtis got the win, pitching a
two-hitter in game one; and the senior combined to go 7-for-8 at
the plate, scoring four runs with six RBI in the twinbill.
With the wins, the Lady Rams up their record to 12-20 for the
year, 8-10 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference
(CACC). The losses drop the Warriors to 6-22; 1-15 in CACC
play.
Sophomore Kelly Rauco and freshman
Randi Wozniak combined for the second-game
shutout, with Rauco earning her third victory of the season in the
starting effort.
In addition to Curtis, a host of Lady Rams had stellar batting
performances. Senior Maureen Keenan belted
her second home run of the year to lead-off the bottom of the
fourth in game two, sparking a 10-run, nine-hit half inning
that opened the floodgates against the Warriors. Keenan
finished the day 4-for-8 with four runs scored and three RBI.
Up next for Head Coach John Kelly's team is a
late-season weekend of non-conference action in the New York Metro
region, as the Lady Rams will be at Molloy on Saturday and at
Adelphi on Sunday.
