Box Score Senior shortstop Zach Mentzer (pictured) went 3 for 5 with a run
and three RBI, helping Philadelphia University to a 10-5 comeback win at
Widener University on Sunday afternoon. The victory over the
Pride ends a two-game slide for the Rams as they improve to 12-18
overall on the season.
The Rams took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when
senior Jason Hartley drove in Mentzer with an RBI single.
Widener, however, scored the next three runs of the game with the
two go-ahead runs coming in the bottom of the fourth inning for a
3-1 advantage. Head Coach Mark Heineman's team came back with
a run in the top of the fifth when junior outfielder Devin Conroy
drove home freshman outfielder Matt Fischer, but the Pride extended
its lead to 4-2 with a run of its own in the bottom of the fifth
inning. Philadelphia University finally broke through in the
top of the eighth inning, though, scoring six times to take an 8-4
lead. Junior catcher Brandon O'Malley and Mentzer each drove
in two runs apiece in the inning as junior Steve Benner earned the
victory in relief.
The Rams will return to conference play in their next action,
traveling to Chestnut Hill College on Tuesday, April 22nd.
